Dom Dibaggio Selected to Represent Ohio Cat in Caterpillar’s Global Dealer Technician Challenge!
Ohio Cat would like to congratulate Dom Dibaggio, Field Serviceman from Canton, for being selected as Ohio Cat’s official nominee for the inaugural Caterpillar Global Dealer Technician Challenge! On Sept. 26, five participants faced off in an in-house, skills-based competition to determine who would represent Ohio Cat which tested their abilities to work under pressure and then scored accordingly.
We caught up with Dom following the competition to get to know a little about his background and how he feels about representing Ohio Cat:
Name: Dom Dibaggio
Position: Field Serviceman
Location: Canton
When did you start working at Ohio Cat and what was your career path leading up to Ohio Cat?
I began my career with Ohio Cat in June of 2017 as an Owens ThinkBIG Intern. I went through the program and graduated before starting full time in May of 2019. Prior to working at Ohio Cat, I had a few part time jobs leading up to Cat. Before I was of working age, I’d help my grandfather in his garage where he restored and repaired antique Ford tractors. Once I reached a working age, I worked at the Salem/Lisbon KOA campground in Salem as a groundskeeper/maintenance mechanic keeping up on everyday repairs of the campground and also the maintenance of the equipment and vehicles. Also, at that time I worked for my high school shop teacher at his business where I maintained heavy equipment and on-highway vehicles.
What made you want to become a technician?
My desire to become a service technician started very young, as I always wanted to know how something mechanical works, and how something is both taken apart and put back together.
Describe your responsibilities as a Field Serviceman.
There are many responsibilities of a Field Serviceman for Ohio Cat. You have the primary responsibilities of working safely, troubleshooting problems efficiently and correctly, ordering the correct parts for a repair, and returning in a timely manner to perform the repair. There’s also the responsibility of making sure all paperwork is turned in correctly and on time – JSA’s, service reports, Product Status Reports, et cetera. Another responsibility is the consistent care and maintenance of our own service truck, making sure it’s receiving service on time and any issues are resolved as soon as possible to ensure no bigger issues arise.
What’s your favorite part about working at Ohio Cat?
You know you will always go to work and learn something new every day. It doesn’t matter what you are doing that day, you always learn something new on how to do your job better. Also, what I like about working for Ohio Cat is that you have limitless career opportunities here. There are so many different positions that you can work your way up through to better yourself and progress your career.
What was your impression about Round 2 of the competition? Did you feel like it challenged you and if so, what do you think brought you success in navigating the challenges?
It was very similar to real life job experiences that I’ve run into in my career. The tasks challenged you because they were all set up in their own way, whether it be an electrical issue, powertrain issue, emissions problem, or a nuts-and-bolts issue. You had to analyze and perform troubleshooting differently for each one.
What does it mean to have been selected to represent Ohio Cat at the Caterpillar Global Dealer Technician Challenge?
It means a lot to me to be selected for this position and I will represent Ohio Cat to the best of my ability!
What are you most looking forward to in the GDTC?
I am most looking forward to seeing how far I’ll be able to advance in this challenge and what new experiences this will bring!
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Global Dealer Technician Challenge on behalf of Ohio Cat and best of luck, Dom, as you embark on this unique opportunity!
