How The Ground Thaw Heater Works

A mobile glycol heater typically consists of a boiler, a pump, a blower fan, and a hose filled with a propylene glycol mixture. The heating hose is laid out evenly across the surface that needs heating. The fuel-fed boiler heats the glycol as it pumps through the hose, heating the ground or other surfaces.

The blower fan distributes heated air across the area, while a vapor barrier surrounding the hose keeps the moisture inside. Laying an optional insulated blanket over the hose can prevent heat from escaping.
