The reliability of your equipment begins with a reliable battery. You need to have confidence that your battery will start your equipment every time, even in the most adverse environments and extreme temperatures. Your battery is at the start of it all. It converts chemical energy into the electrical energy necessary to power your machine, delivering voltage to the starter, and stabilizing the voltage to keep your engine running. If the engine doesn’t start, nothing runs. With Cat Heavy-Duty and General Duty Batteries, you can count on reliable starting so you can get on with job at hand.
Both the Heavy-Duty (HD) and General Duty (GD) battery lines are available in a wide range of industry standard sizes to meet your fleet needs. Watch the video to learn more about industry-leading, Cat Batteries and how they stand apart from just any other battery.
Right now, you can save on the toughest and most reliable batteries in the industry. Rigorous testing ensures industry-leading performance and reliability, including:
Cat HD batteries are used in all Cat equipment and generator sets. They are designed to provide industry-leading Cold Cranking Amp (CCA) capability and maximum vibration resistance.
Our General Duty batteries deliver equally reliable performance in less severe applications.
Cat General Duty batteries provide sure starts and are ideal for automotive, light truck, bus, marine, industrial, agricultural, stationary power, and recreational use.
Preventative maintenance and component inspections are sometimes overlooked, frequently costing owners and operators unexpected downtime that likely could’ve been avoided with a quick inspection or taking preventative maintenance measures. At Ohio Cat, we understand that time is money, which is why we’ve prepared a step-by-step guide for you to help you make an informed decision on whether or not replacing your batteries now will help you avoid the unexpected this winter.
CHECK BATTERY BOX: Open box frequently for general maintenance.
CHECK FOR TERMINAL CORROSION
If your terminals are showing signs of corrosion, clean terminals and posts as necessary and perform another load test to ensure failure was not due to misconnection. The terminal and post should have a shiny appearance after cleaning. Sometimes, fine grit sandpaper may be required to achieve a shiny clean surface in order to restore a proper connection. NOTE: Batteries can be cleaned with one of the following solutions:
Remove the cleaning solution from the battery and neutralize the battery by rinsing the battery with clean water. SAFETY NOTE: Rapid air movement from compressed air with dust, dirt, or other forms of debris can create static electricity. Static electricity may lead to explosion when in the vicinity of a battery, resulting in personal injury or death. NEVER USE COMPRESSED AIR FOR CLEANING IN THE VICINITY OF A BATTERY.
CHECK FOR DAMAGED CASE
Cracked cases may be an indication that battery hold down clamps are too tight. Signs of overcharging will also be evident on the exterior case of the battery by bleeding or streading down the sides of the case, alerting it’s time to check charging output and electrolyte levels.
CHECK CABLE TIGHTNESS
Tighten to terminal torque requirements. It is recommended to verify for specific machine application.
If your engine is still cranking slow after inspecting and troubleshooting, it’s likely time to replace your batteries.
